ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) The ASVAB is a great career exploration tool that helps you know your strengths and your career options. The ASVAB is also the assessment that is used for entrance into the military. Below are two links with more information. Students in 10th and 11th grades take the ASVAB assessment. Any 12th grade student who is interested in the military and wants to take the test for the first time, or as a retester, may also take the test. The annual Jr./Sr. High School Drug Testing Consent Information meeting for parents & students is at 6 p.m. today (Sept. 27) at the Marfa Shorthorn Gym. This is a mandatory meeting for all students who are in extracurricular activities and those who will participate this school year.

The Department of State Health Services will administer the second Pfizer Vaccine at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, September 9, at the Marfa Shorthorn Gym. Children 12- to 15-years old must be accompanied by their parent/guardian. There is no charge for the vaccine.

With the increase in COVID cases and other common viruses, we are asking that parents/guardians please keep their child home if she/he has a fever, cough, or sore throat. This will be an excused absence with a note from the parent or a medical provider explaining the illness. District nurse Beverly Dutchover has COVID tests available for students. Please contact her at 432-729-5500 to schedule a test if needed.

Shorthorn Homecoming is tonight at Martin Field! Pre-game show begins at 5:45 p.m. The MHS Homecoming court will be presented and the Queen, King, Prince, and Princess will be announced. Kickoff is 6:05 p.m. when the Shorthorns take on Holy Cross Catholic School. The Athletic Booster Club will have the concession stand open selling popcorn, hot dogs, nachos and more! Go Shorthorns!

School begins tomorrow, Monday, August 16. Student drop off begins at 7:40 am Drop off for elementary will be on the west side of the building. Doors will open for students to enter the building at 7:45 a.m. Pick up will begin at 3:45 pm. Junior High drop off is at the football field entrance and High School drop off is at the front of the high school. All junior high and high school students will meet in the auditorium at 8 am for a general assembly. Students are encouraged to bring bottled water.
