Celebrate the Shorthorns who have been working on Big Bend Conservation Alliance's lighting incentive program. Cash prizes will be distributed to the four teams working on the project and we will celebrate with a star party with Allen Gilchrist from the Big Bend Astronomer's Club that will include a sky tour and telescope views of star clusters, Jupiter, Saturn, and the moon. Friends, families, and faculty are all welcome for this celebration and night sky tour.

This was the first of three nights planned for our Shorthorn Success Nights. Wednesday, October 19th is scheduled for 9th and 10th parents and students, and Monday, October 24th will be for 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. Can’t make it on your night, schedule a time to meet with Mrs. Murphy, our Student Success Coordinator, to talk about how to help your child succeed!

Students in Advanced Art took a walking field trip on Friday to several Marfa galleries. The itinerary included stops at Greasewood Gallery, Rule Gallery, and the printmaking studio of Robert Arber. There, students were treated to a tour by local artist Valerie Arber, as she explained the printmaking techniques behind works by Donald Judd, Bruce Nauman, and Charline von Heyl. The trip ended with a stop at Frama, where the young artists cooled off with ice cream or iced drinks!

At approximately 3:11 pm, Marfa ISD was contacted by the Marfa Police Department about a possible active shooter in the city of Presidio. Marfa ISD went to a shelter in place (no in or out of the building and students remain in their classrooms) for approximately 10 minutes so that police could be present on campus in case of an emergency occurring here in Marfa. Marfa ISD was quickly notified of no danger and returned to normal schedule. As a precautionary measure, Marfa Police remained on campus. Once again, Marfa ISD was just taking precautionary measures, the alert came from the city of Presidio. There was no danger in Marfa.
