
The Department of State Health Services will give vaccines to students ages 12 and older at 1:00 p.m., Friday, May 14 at the MISD board room. Children 12- to 15-years old must be accompanied by their parent/guardian. There is no charge for the vaccine. Medical consent forms will be sent home with students on Wednesday, May 12. Please call the school at 432-729-5500 if you want your child vaccinated.

As part of Marfa ISD’s overall health education curriculum, Dr. Katie Ray and Dr. Adrian Billings from Preventative Care Health Services will present sexual awareness education information to Grade 8-Grade 12 students. Dr. Ray will present to the girls on Wednesday, May 12th and Dr. Billings will present to the boys on Thursday, May 13th.
Marfa ISD acknowledges that parents/guardians are the primary sexuality educators for their child/children, and we are committed to partnering with you to provide supplementary resources to support you in this role. You have the option of excluding your child from this presentation if it is in conflict with conscience, moral, or religious beliefs. If this is the case with your child, please fill out the exclusion form being sent home with students today and tomorrow and return to school Wednesday. We would love for the community to join us in learning how to understand an individual who may be developing a mental health challenge or experiencing a mental health crisis, learn how to approach them, and who to connect for appropriate professional help.
Youth Mental Health First Aid- This training is great for adults who help or work with adolescent, ages 6-18, family members or friends.

The Emergency Broadband Benefit is an FCC program to help families and households struggling to afford internet service during the COVID-19 pandemic. This program provides a temporary monthly discount on internet service for qualifying households. Applications will be made available Wednesday, May 12. Junior high and high school students with excessive absences received notices and reports were mailed home to parents/guardians today. Students must make up this time by May 28 in order to receive class credit. The state requires that all students attend all classes 90 percent of the semester to earn credit.
Saturday School for students needing to make up excessive absences will be held May 8, May 15, and May 22, from 8:00 a.m.-12 noon. Students must report at 8 a.m. to the auditorium. Please bring a bottle of water, chromebook, and assignments. Students must stay the full 4 hours to receive credit. Students can also make up hours after school in the auditorium from 3:45-4:45 p.m. beginning today, May 4 and continuing each school day until May 27. Please call the high school office if you need more information.

The Rio Grande Council of Governments, Texas Department of State Health Services, and Marfa ISD are working to provide Pfizer vaccinations for all students over the age of 16. Please contact the school by Thursday, May 6, 2021 if you are interested in having your child participate in this event.

Environmental Science students have spent the past month researching and studying the Big Bend. They created their own field guide that is used to indentify local flora and fauna. Today, they hiked Big Bend Ranch State Park trails and toured Barton Warnock Center and Fort Leaton
