Artwork by children involved in SITES.

The Marfa Studio of Arts has been in partnership with the Marfa Independent School District since 2006 to provide a quality art education to the children of the elementary school. Throughout the school year, this program offers art classes in the school to the kids from Montessori Pre-K to 6th grade. The program is called the “Studio in the Elementary School” or SITES.  There is also an after-school arts program for the kids who want to explore the arts outside of the regular school hours.

The teachers of the SITES program are professional artists and art educators who live in the Marfa area. They bring a special expertise to the program with a diversity of experience and knowledge. A special relationship is built between these teacher and the children through their adventure into the creative process.

All throughout the year the walls of the school are covered with the brilliant and beautiful art projects of the SITES classes.  At the end of the school year the Marfa Studio of Arts hosts the annual SITES exhibition at the gallery located at 106 East San Antonio.

This program is funded by the Marfa Studio of Arts, a non-profit arts organization dedicated to bringing the arts to the Marfa Community. All aspects of the classes are paid by the MSA including the teachers salaries and all materials. MiSD supports the program with dedicated classroom space.
Other supporters of this program include the Texas Commission on the Arts, the Permian Basin Area Foundation, the Mitchell Foundation  and of course the generosity of our donors.
